Myopia, Hyperopia, Astigmatism in Children
Many eye problems can be seen in children. Early diagnosis and treatment are important for preventing eye diseases. It is beneficial for children to have routine eye examinations regularly.

It is not surprising that myopia, hypermetropia and astigmatism are seen in children. This situation should be recognized early and the child should be allowed to wear glasses when necessary.
Closed Tear Duct in Babies
- In 20 out of every 100 healthy babies, the tear duct is congenitally closed.
- In these babies, severe eye discharge and dirty yellow watering are present.
- Until the baby is 1 year old, pressure massage on the tear duct is usually therapeutic.
Lazy Eye
- In infants and children, if there is a refractive error that is not symmetrical between the two eyes, amblyopia may develop in one of the eyes.
- This risk is highest for asymmetrical hypermetropia.

Retinal Damage in Newborns

- ROP is a serious disease and can be dangerous if not treated early.
- There is a risk of detachment and blindness in the immature retina.
Spring Allergy in Children
- In children, it is commonly called spring allergy or pink eye, and in ophthalmology it is called vernalis. Allergic conjunctivitis (conjunctivitis) is common.
- This disease occurs almost every spring until the child is 20 years old and lasts until autumn.
- There is severe burning and itching in the eyes.
- Treatment is done with eye drops and lasts a long time.
Strabismus in Children
- It is the inability of the eyes to look parallel.

- Especially in cases of introversion, laziness may develop in one eye. The depth of amblyopia is not related to the amount of strabismus.
- A small amount of amblyopia may cause a profound loss of vision.
- Amblyopia may be seen intermittently in the early stages. This type of deviation may become permanent over time.
- Extraversion is more common with myopia.
- Strabismus surgery should be performed under general anesthesia.

- Surgery is not required in the treatment of all types of strabismus, some patients can be treated with glasses.
Eye Tumor in Children
- An eye tumor called retinoblastoma can also be seen in children.
- Retinoblastoma is a dangerous intraocular tumor.
- It happens congenitally. It is possible, but not necessary, to have a genetic origin.
- It is usually treated with surgery.
- If early treatment is not given, it may spread outside the eye.
